About
Calvin
Dubbed by The Australian as the ‘Piano Man,’ Indonesian-Australian pianist Calvin Abdiel is rapidly gaining international recognition for his extraordinary virtuosity and expressive artistry. A finalist in the 2021 Sydney International Piano Competition—the first Australian to reach this stage in two decades—he received the George Frederick Boyle Third Prize and Nancy Weir Best Australian Pianist Prize.
Born in Jakarta, he made his orchestral debut at 16 with the St. Petersburg State Capella Symphony Orchestra and has since performed with leading ensembles across Europe, Asia, and Australia. He recently completed his Master of Arts at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin. His performances have been broadcast on ABC Classic FM and Fine Music Sydney, solidifying his reputation as one of the most compelling young pianists of his generation.
